Blogger VS Professional Shopping Guide 2021 - The Professionals

This year, it’s all about the trends

Welcome back everyone! This is part two of our Blogger vs Professionals 2021 piece! Last time we showed you what our blogger would have picked if she could go shopping for an entirely new suite of appliances. That was based on the features of the different models,  and was meant to show off how the average consumer shops. This week we’re showing you what our professionals go for when they’re tasked with the same thing.

Refrigerators

Built-In  Refrigerator

Model: 42" Built-In Side-by-Side Refrigerator

Brand: Jenn-Air

Jenn Air refrigerator in black obsidian interior with air filter and freshness preserver

This first fridge is for you if you really like the look of everything being hidden away in your kitchen. The Jenn-Air is panel ready, for whatever look you’re wanting to attain in your kitchen. Not only is it wonderfully organized which makes life easier for you, but it also focuses on the important bits of a refrigerator. The Jenn-Air not only has specialized controls to ensure that the proper temperatures are always maintained, but they also have ethylene filters. These absorb the ethylene gas that fruits and vegetables produce to keep them fresher longer.  Our professionals love this fridge because it focuses on what a refrigerator is for, keeping your food accessible, cool and at peak ripeness.

Stand Alone Refrigerator

Model: 19.9 Cu. Ft. Counter-Depth Side-by-Side Refrigerator in Black Stainless Steel

Brand: KitchenAid

Kitchen Aid counter depth refrigerator with air filter odor filter

This second refrigerator is for those of you that want to see your appliances for what they are. The KitchenAid is counter depth, and like its Jenn-Air counterpart is all about keeping your food fresher, longer. Like the Jenn-Air it has an ethylene filter. Unlike the Jenn-Air though it has two separate compressors, one for the fridge and one for the freezer. It also features a second filter intended to filter out odors from inside your fridge, for when you get to cooking something with very strong spices.

Washer

Model: 3.2 Cu. Ft. Top Load Electronic Washer in White

Brand: Speed Queen

Speed Queen Washer in White

Our Professionals are still swearing by Speed Queen for washers and dryers this year. The washer this year however has a new interface system to make choosing the settings for your wash even easier.  It also has a solid steel drum which means not only is it gentler on your clothes than most, but the machine will also last longer.

Dryer

Model: 7.0 Cu. Ft. Gas Dryer Classic Touch in White

Brand: Speed Queen

Speed Queen Gas Dryer in white

The Speed Queen dryer has also received an upgraded control panel, but it also has sensors within it that allow you to select how dry you want a load to be. Do you prefer to iron your clothes  while they’re still slightly damp? This dryer lets you do that.

Dishwashers

Family

Model: 24" Built-In Bar Handle Dishwasher with FreeFlex 3rd Rack and LED Interior Light in PrintShield Stainless Steel

Brand:  KitchenAid

KitchenAid Dishwasher third rack flex rack in silver

If you’ve got kids, you know just how many dishes you use up. This dishwasher gives you the space you need for all of them. Not only does it have a third rack for last minute dishes, it also has a flexible middle rack to fit whatever you’re washing. This model also has a sanitizing cycle and a microfiltration unit to constantly clean the water as the dishwasher is running.

Single /Couples

Model: 24" Professional Built-In Double Drawer Dishwasher in Stainless Steel

Brand: Fisher and Paykel

Fisher and Paykel Drawer dishwasher

If on the other hand you’re single living on your own, or a couple without kids at home, you might not need something as large as the KitchenAid. Instead, our professionals have suggested this Fisher and Paykel model. This model can either come as a single unit, allowing you to just have the dish compartment, or as a double drawer. The double drawer option lets you choose as you need whether to run both drawers simultaneously or to run just one at time. You could have one for dishes, and one for pots and pans.

Wall Oven

Model: 30" Combination Wall Oven

Brand: KitchenAid

KitchenAid Wall oven Convection Microwave

For wall ovens our professionals only had one suggestion and that was KitchenAid. “There really isn’t a better one that we can recommend. It’s a hard working oven that does what it’s meant to, while still having a few special features.”  The lowe oven is a convection oven, while the upper is a microwave oven. If you want to do a lot of baking, use the lower oven for  for perfect baking. If you’re short on time for making dinner, that’s when the microwave oven shines. It also has a temperature probe so that you can ensure that you what you set the oven to is what it really is.

Range

Model:5.8 Cu. Ft. Slide-In Gas Range

Brand:  KitchenAid

KitchenAid Slide In Gas Range

Just like the wall oven, the gas ranges had one standout winner for our professionals. Another KitchenAid, this slide in range is built to impress. With 5 burners, a steam rack and a built in steam cleaning system the team agreed that this was the best.

Whichever models you go for, you can know that these are the ones that our professionals approved with you in mind. We want to keep your homes running smoothly, whether that means fixing your old appliances or helping you find the best new ones.  We at ARS are always keeping our clients all over the Dallas area in mind. Blogger VS Professional Shopping Guide 2021

This year, it’s all about the trends.

This time last year we had two groups go through shopping for new appliances, our Blogger and our Professionals. We’re doing it again this year with a few minor changes.Like last year we’re going to have two different posts, with our Blogger doing her shopping and our Professionals doing theirs. However,  we’ve brought in three different types  of ranges. Given that new technologies are becoming more prevalent in the market and in the homes of our clients, we wanted to give a wider range of choices.

We will point out that due to the chaos that was 2020, we are still under an appliance shortage. So while we wholeheartedly like the appliances we bring up, your ability to get them right this minute, might be questionable.

Refigerators

KitchenAid Refrigerator

Model: 25.8 Cu. Ft. 36" Multi-Door Freestanding Refrigerator with Platinum Interior Design

Brand: Kitchen Aid

Do we need to point out the obvious on this one? It has five doors! One of which is entirely dedicated to preserving vegetables and herbs, while the other small one is able to be switched between multiple different options based on what you need. It’s not limited to just fruits or veggies, but also has settings for meats & cheeses, and thawing or marinating. I think that would be especially useful if you do a lot of meal prep.

We also want to point out that it’s almost 26 cubic feet of storage space on the interior. That is a lot of space for a lot of food.

Model: Benchmark® Built-in Bottom Freezer Refrigerator36''

Brand: Bosch

Bosch Refrigerator with wood paneling

Well engineered is the byline for Bosch in my opinion. That don’t have a huge list of features, but what they do have, works. ` Their freezers have a SuperCool feature to rapidly return the freezer to normal temperatures after you open it up. It also can connect to your phone to give you messages alerting you to issues with your fridge like leaving a door open. Not to mention, this one proves a point we made last year that you’re going to start to see wood paneled (or imitation) appliances for your home.

Model: LG SIGNATURE 23 cu. ft. Smart wi-fi Enabled InstaView™ Door-in-Door® Counter-Depth Refrigerator

Brand: LG

LG Refrigerator

I have to be honest, this one is my favorite, and I was sorely tempted to go home with the model that my local store had on hand. I have dogs that love to lay in front of my fridge and this solves that problem 90% of the time. I can get a drink or a snack without having to make them move. Everyone wins.

On top of that, it keeps the ability to look inside the fridge as well, so you’re still cutting down on the ‘staring at the fridge with the door open and your electric bill going up.

So out of the refrigerators, LG gets my vote, even if it is a little smaller in terms of interior size.

Dishwashers

Model: GE Profile™ Top Control with Stainless Steel Interior Dishwasher with Sanitize Cycle & Twin Turbo Dry Boost

Brand: GE

GE Dishwasher

GE got this one right, it’s that simple. They offer a steam and sanitize cycle as well as a food pulverizer for any bits that are left on your plates. It’s wonderful and I’m pretty sure it could handle anything I could throw at it, whether that’s cleaning up after babysitting all of the nieces and nephews, or having a party for 20.

Model: 44 dBA Dishwasher in PrintShield™ Finish with FreeFlex™ Third Rack

Brand: KitchenAid

KitchenAid Dishwasher

Although this model isn’t particularly quiet at 44db, it does have several advantages that I liked the sound of. It has a microfiltration unit that works throughout the wash cycle, which KitchenAid claims allows you to wash dirty pots and delicate glasses together. It also ‘ProWash’ cycle that monitors the amount of dirt in a cycle and adjusts the amount of water needed on that. To me, anything that is going to cut down on a water bill gets my vote.

Model: Benchmark® Dishwasher24'' SHV89PW73N

Brand: Bosch

Something I haven’t seen in any other dishwasher is what caught me on this one. “AquaStop® Plus 4-Part leak protection system prevents water damage 24/7.” Given some of the horror stories we’ve seen of floors getting damaged due to a faulty dishwasher, this one had me. It’s also even quieter than the one we showed last year at 38 db. It has an adjustable top rack, and a light that lets you know if your dishwasher is running. Why? I’m not entirely certain. But hey. I suppose if you run your dishwasher in the middle of the night and aren’t certainif it’s running or not, it might be useful. This model also comes with the paneling in the image so that it fits in with your existing cabinetry.

Bosch Dishwasher

Ranges

Model: GE Profile™ 30" Smart Slide-In Electric Double Oven Convection Fingerprint Resistant Range

Brand: GE

GE Electric Range

This one, as the model info says is an electric range. What caught my eye though was the fact that it is a double oven, with built in Air Fryer, and it is a convection oven.

The one thing I’m.. iffy on is that it can be upgraded by GE with “the latest features, like new Air Fry modes, with downloadable upgrades.” If you’re a tech wizard or love having the most up to date appliances, this one is for you. Me, I’m intrigued by it, but not so certain I want my oven to need downloadable features.

Model: 30" Smart Slide-In, Front-Control, Induction and Convection Range with Warming Drawer

Brand: Cafe

Cafe Induction Range

This might be the first oven that comes with a guided class. I could be wrong, and no I’m not talking about the manual. One of the things the pamphlet talked about for Cafe’s induction oven was their “Gourmet Guided Cooking.” It combines video-guided recipes from a chef, and the range automatically adjusts based on which recipe you’re doing. It feels very Jetson-y to me. Another feature is that with the induction element you can boil a quart of water in 101 seconds. Or, if you’re like me and enjoy measuring time in minutes, that’s 1 minute and 41 seconds. But I admit it is more eye catching to say 101 seconds.

Model: ZLINE 36” Dual Fuel- Gas Range/Electric Oven (RA36)

Brand: ZLine

I will admit, I’d never heard of ZLine before walking into my local store. However, seeing their freestanding range was wonderful. It’s a very eye catching and appealing design.

ZLine Dual Fuel Range

They offer custom options for the doors and burners, as well as the fact that this is a professional grade range. It has 6 gas burners and dual induction ovens.

Washers

Model: GE® 4.8 cu. ft. Capacity Smart Front Load ENERGY STAR® Washer with UltraFresh Vent System with OdorBlock™ and Sanitize w/Oxi

Brand: GE

GE Washer

Being totally honest I hate it when my washing machine starts to get that weird smell. This washer gets rid of that. Between the vent with odor block and the antimicrobial tech built into the drum of the washer, I love this thing. It also has the ability to auto balance your load if you’re like me and just toss your laundry in there. (I swear I haven’t broken any of my washers by doing this.) This model was also one of the few on the floor that was actually endorsed by Good Housekeeping. So if you trust their rating system, that’s a vote in GE’s favor?

Model: 5.0 cu. ft. Mega Capacity Smart wi-fi Enabled Front Load Washer with TurboWash™ 360° and Built-In Intelligence

Brand: LG

LG Washer

Since this post, like last year, is supposed to be about the things that catch my eye, this one was right on there. ‘Built In Intelligence, how does that one work?” was all I could wonder. Don’t worry, it’s not iRobot. The idea is that the washer is capable of selecting the right setting for the job, but you can still override it if you prefer to do it yourself. LG also gives you a built in steam option which I absolutely love, because it removes 95% of allergens and pet dander.

They also have a second smaller washer.  Which, I know, is technically optional, but I also I know I am not the only one who would has days when I go “Oh no! I need to wash this one outfit for an event I forgot about.”

We know that you’re wondering where the dryers are. Since we just covered them a few weeks ago, we’re going to point you there to get a look at 9 different dryers at 3 different price points instead of repeating ourselves.

That’s it for me this week folks! I hope you’ve enjoyed yourselves and seeing what mischief I could get up to this year! I hope to see you back later this month when we’ll see what our professionals have to say on the matter.

Getting Your Home Clean, Month by Month

Why Doing It Every Month is Better Than Just Once In the Spring.

Are you as stressed out about the idea of spring cleaning as we are? We know the year has only just started, and it’s only just winter,  but it’s this great giant threat that’s looming on the horizon for us. We’ve been mostly in our homes for the better part of the last year. Unless you stayed on top of it, that means there’s dust in all sorts of weird spots and all sorts of other tasks that need to be taken care of. What if we told you that there’s an easier way though? Rather than getting it done all at once and working to exhaustion, you go month by month?

Spring cleaning VS Month By Month

This isn’t meant to replace a regular cleaning schedule by any means. But doing a deep cleaning for a brief time in spring is stressful. You feel as though everything has to be done right then, and there’s so much to do. Doing certain tasks throughout the year means that you are mentally prepared for each task, rather than being faced with a giant list. We’ve broken down the different major tasks so that they relate to what is happening in the world around you. Hopefully that will make it easier for your to remember different tasks over time. You can always rearrange the list if something else makes more sense.

January - Furniture - You’ve just had family and friends over for the holidays, now is the time to clean up anything that spilled or was lost by little grabby hands. Cleaning your furniture is also a way to check in with  your home and see what needs to be done in the year ahead.

February - Laundry Room - February is, for many of us, when we are wearing the largest number of clothes. It’s the deepest part of winter and the wind makes sure to let you know. Why not take the time to clean things up in your laundry room? This is everything from cleaning the outsides of your machines, to giving the washer a deep clean and emptying out the dryer duct. There’s much more than that to take care of, but those are a few that you’ll want to pay special attention to.

March - Ceiling Fans and Light Fixtures - Spring is starting to show up this month! That means it's time to open up the house and get the air flowing. This also means it's time to start cleaning ceiling fans and the light fixtures attached as well. An easy trick is to use a pillow case when you clean off a fan. If you open the pillowcase and pull carefully towards yourself, it captures the majority of the dust inside the case. Lights are easier to handle with a Swiffer or something else that is both soft and light.

April - Blinds & Curtains - Now that we have the air flowing, let's get the light coming in. Sure it's going to be raining off and on all month, but at least you'll have bright spring light pouring in. Which means cleaning your blinds and curtains and mending any rips or tears that might have happened. Blinds are most easily cleaned with a Swiffer if all the have is dust. If they're covered with more of that, check out this post from over at Architectural Digest. For curtains we suggest washing gently by hand or taking them to a cleaner.

May - Windows - Now that the majority of the rain has passed, we hope, it's time to clean the windows. You'll want to clean them on a day that's bright and warm, which shouldn't be too hard in Texas. While you can use a commercial cleaner, we suggest using a solution of vinegar and water to clean them for a greener recipe. Yes, it’s going to smell, but it’s not going to harm you, your pets or your water. Also take the time to look around the window seals and the frames for the windows closely. You want to make sure that everything is still sealed tight, and there aren’t any signs of termites or damage.

June - Carpet & Floors -The spring storms have passed and during them you probably ended up with a lot of mud being tracked in and out of the house. June is the time to tackle that with a carpet cleaner and a good floor polish. You can even go crazy and move the furniture around in different rooms as you do to create a fresh look. You’ll already be moving pieces to get around them to clean, might as well update the layout as well.

July - Kitchen - Most of us clean out our refrigerators on a regular basis, be that weekly or monthly. Cleaning your kitchen is more than just getting rid of moldy food though. It’s moving around your cabinets and appliances to get rid of dirt, grime and dropped foods. It’s cleaning out your cabinets, matching containers to their lids, and throwing away spices that have lost their punch. It’s also checking your water lines, outlets and gas lines if you have them, to see if there’s any degradation or other issues. As to why you’re doing it in July rather than some other time, it’s a matter of making sure that your pipes aren’t going to freeze during the process of going over everything. In July you’re not going to have to worry.

August - Bathrooms-  Now that it’s the hottest part of the summer, it’s a good time to clean your bathroom. There’s two reasons for that. One, you don’t have to worry about pipes freezing if you need to shut the water off at any point. Two, you can keep the water on cold while you’re cleaning and stick your head under the shower spray to cool off. Like the kitchen, your goal is purge old and out of date things, from makeup to medicine to cleaning supplies. Then go over seals and pipes both inside and out to ensure that there aren’t any leaks.

September - Vents- If you don’t have this as part of your regular cleaning routine, take this month to change out all of the filters in your house. With fall starting up this month, you’re going to have all sorts of pollen and dust in the air. Might as well give your filters a fighting chance and change them out ahead of time.

October - Closets - Now, technically, Texas doesn’t typically get that fall starts in September. If we’re lucky it might catch up to the idea by November. Regardless, use the dream of upcoming cooler temperatures to swap out your closet and clean things up. Start by getting rid of anything you haven’t worn in the last six months. Then move on to anything you haven’t touched in at least  a year. We’re not saying to throw away everything, just consider items and what you want to keep versus what is just taking up space. While you’re moving things around  you’ll be able to keep an eye out for any signs of pests.

November - Bedrooms -  We know that the days are still plenty warm, but the nights are starting to get a bit nippy. That means it’s time to bring out your winter bedspreads and put away your lighter fabrics. While you’re doing that, why not move things around like we did in the rest of the house and keep an eye out for things like mice, bugs, and large quantities of spiders. The upside is that with all of the cleaning, your bedroom is going to feel fresh and comfortable afterwards. If you want to nap after all of it,we won’t tell.

December - Baseboards- This brings us back to the close of the year and right where we started, parties. Hopefully by this time next year you will be able to have parties in safety again. It also means that your baseboards need to get cleaned. Not just swept under/around because we all know dust and pet hair tends to collect there, but also scrubbing them down. While most people don’t stare at your baseboards during a party, having them clean will add to how bright a room appears.

What do you think? Do you have reasons that spring cleaning is better? We might not agree, but we still would love to hear from you either in the comments below or over on our Facebook page. After all, yours could be the argument that convinces us to reconsider.

If in the event of all this cleaning you find out that your appliances aren’t working right, be they in the kitchen, the laundry room or your den, let us know. We want to help you keep your home running and that means keeping your appliances running. We aim to be the best in appliance repair in Allen and the surrounding areas. You can call us at ((214) 599-0055) or reach out to us via our webpage.

9 Different Gas Dryers, at 3 Different Price Points

Ratings/Reviews/Opinions

If you’re looking at getting a new dryer in the coming year but aren’t sure yet what you want to spend, we’ve got you covered. This week we’re digging through three different price ranges to find the best gas dryers available for purchase and what each will get you.

Some of the benefits of a gas dryer versus an electric are cost and drying speed. Over time a gas dryer is going to cost you less money when compared to an electric dryer. It will also dry faster because the heat is spread more consistently throughout the drum.

Lowest Price Range But Still Solid.

If you’re in need of a dryer fast and now, this is the category for you. Maybe your old one broke down, and you need something to work while you’re researching what you really want. Or perhaps you’re looking to replace one in a  property you own. These dryers are, as of writing, all priced between 500 to 750 dollars.

Our favorite out of these is actually the Samsung. One of the things so many of us forget is to  empty out the lint filter, which is one of the most common causes of fires in dryers, and within the home in general. Although it doesn’t have all of the features of the other dryers we will be showing you, it is a workhorse that is well rated by those who have purchased it in the past.

Mid-Range Pricing With More Bells

These three sit in the middle of the curve. On one hand, you’re still not spending a huge amount of money, but on the other hand, they come with many of the features that the top tier dryers also have. These three are all between 1000-1100 as of the time of writing.

Samsung DV42H5000GW Reversible Side Loading Gas Dryer

Out of the mid-tier set, our favorite is the LG. This one not only has custom programs so you can save your preferred settings, but it also has a setting dedicated to making ironing easier. It also has a duct sensor to let you know when your vent is clogged, which is a wonderful safety feature as far as we’re concerned. To top it  all it has a smart diagnostic app, which means that you’ll have an easier time of pinpointing what’s wrong and whether you need to call in a professional or if you can fix it yourself.

All Of The Bells and Whistles With The Price To Match

Last but not least, we have the newest and shiniest set of dryers. Not only do these have the best reviews for gas dryers currently, but they also have the most bells and whistles. These range from 1200 and up as of writing.

Once again, we have to give this round to the LG. Although the price tag is nothing to sneeze at, it has the features that we expect to see. Not only is it the only one on the list that is WiFi capable, which makes your life easier, it is also engineered to be quiet.

Those are three sets of different gas dryers at three different price ranges. Which one do you think you’re going to go for? Do you have any that we missed? Let us know in the comments below or over on our Facebook page. We’d love to hear from you.

The Top 7 Kitchen Trends of 2021: Our Predictions

What we expect to be most popular in Garland and the surrounding area.

2020 is almost over and that means many of us are looking at making changes in our lives and in our homes. For many of us that means looking at the top trends that are going to be popular in the coming year. We're taking a look at the top 7 to see what companies are predicting will be popular in 2021.

- Colored Stone Counters And Backsplashes

Like we talked about with paint colors it's time to bring color into the kitchen. We at ARS love this idea. Let's move away from sterile White and try out different patterns and natural stones. Bonus points if you want to get the look without spending a ton of money you can do peel and stick tiles for your backsplashes. This also means that you can change them out more easily and test out which ones you like best.

- Mixing Materials

People spent a lot of time in their kitchens this last year. Learning how to make sourdough, cheeses, or just mastering basic cooking. People want their kitchens to reflect them and part of that is bringing in new materials and textures. We fully expect to see cabinets in wood and wood-textured panels for filling in small spaces around the kitchen.

-Multifunctional spaces

In the coming year, even more, people are going to be working from home. For many of us, this means having an office space that we can close away. It's not always feasible within the way your home is set up though to dedicate an entire room to an office. Companies have started responding to this new need by offering furniture that can serve both as storage and as a small desk without taking up much space when not in use. We expect to see furniture and design ideas that expand on this need over the next several years.

-Fluidity between inside and outside

As we talked about over the summer people are breaking down the line between inside and outside. There are not just outdoor kitchens, but outdoor living rooms, offices, and even bedrooms. And people are also looking to bring the outside in with a resurging interest in not just individual plants scattered throughout the home but entire gardens. As Time continues we expect to see this trend go in many different directions.

- All Black Kitchen

We expect the trend of the all white kitchen to continue for at least a few more years. However, there is also a trend that we have seen over the last year towards sleek and elegant all black kitchens. While we don't expect this one to catch on in Texas, you might see it pop up in some of your friends’ or relatives' homes. After all, the South has to deal with quite a bit more heat than just what your oven puts off.

- Gold Finishes

Over the last decade we've had copper and bronze finishes. We've had aged versions of both. And stainless steel has still reigned supreme. -Portable Fixtures

When so many of us have been trapped in our homes for the last year, and the threat of another full closure on the horizon, it's no surprise that we're restless in our homes. We want to move from room to room, to get up and pace. To that end our lights and audio elephant are becoming more portable. People don't want to fight with wires and plugs to try and get things positioned around the home when you move from place to place. Instead companies are starting to offer ways to take the lights with you as you move.
